6.41. Libtool-2.4.6

The Libtool package contains the GNU generic library support script. It wraps the complexity of using shared libraries in a consistent, portable interface.

Approximate build time: 2.0 SBU
Required disk space: 48 MB

6.41.1. Installation of Libtool

Prepare Libtool for compilation:

./configure --prefix=/usr

Compile the package:

make

To test the results (about 11.0 SBU), issue:

make check

Five tests are known to fail in the LFS build envronment due to a circular dependency, but all tests pass if rechecked after automake is installed.

Install the package to a temporary directory:

make install DESTDIR=$(pwd)/debian/tmp

Move the static library to a separate package for later removal:

mkdir -pv debian/tmp-static/usr/lib
mv -v debian/tmp/usr/lib/libltdl.a debian/tmp-static/usr/lib

Create the package archives:

buildpkg
buildpkg --package=libtool-static debian/tmp-static

Install the packages:

dpkg -i ../libtool_2.4.6_*.deb ../libtool-static_2.4.6_*.deb
